Town of Somerville Special Census 2018

Posted on Thursday January 18, 2018

The Town of Somerville is in the process of conducting a town-wide Special Census to gain an accurate count of the number of residents now living in Somerville. The sole purpose of this census is to increase Somerville’s amount of state-shared revenues that are distributed to cities by the State of Tennessee on a per capita basis. For every resident accurately counted as living in Somerville, more than $120 in shared revenue flows to the Town from the State – with no local property tax increase

2018 Special Census-Somerville Counts

Dear fellow Somerville Citizen:

As you may be aware, the Town of Somerville is in the process of conducting a town-wide Special Census to gain an accurate count of the number of residents now living in Somerville.

The sole purpose of this census is to increase Somerville’s amount of state-shared revenues that are distributed to cities by the State of Tennessee on a per capita basis.  For every resident accurately counted as living in Somerville, more than $120 in shared revenue flows to the Town from the State.  These funds are distributed to municipalities like Somerville and lessen our dependency on property taxes to fund basic municipal services.  It truly is a win-win for our taxpayers and for the Town as we maintain the high quality police, fire, streets and other public services that make Somerville a great place to call home.

With the growth Somerville has seen since 2010, it is a logical time to complete a Special Census.  Your participation in accurately counting the total number of residents will mean more state shared revenue coming to the Town.

For our census to be certified by the State, your Special Census Information Card must contain the first and last name of every person living in the household, as well as the street number and street name of the household.  No additional data such as age, race, income, etc. is required.  The information collected will only be used by the Town for verification of the current population.

There are two options available to you in submitting your Special Census data.  You can complete the enclosed Special Census Information Card and return it on the postage paid postcard provided or you can visit the Town’s survey web site at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SomervilleCounts and complete the secure form online.  Either way, it will take no more than two minutes.

Your assistance in providing the information by Friday February 9, 2018 will help reduce the cost to the Town in collecting the data and avoid follow up contact with you later by telephone or field visit.

Thank you for your help in making sure all citizens of Somerville are counted!  If you need additional information or assistance, please contact Mr. Robert Turner or Blake Walley at Town Hall by calling (901) 465-9500.

Respectfully,

Ronnie Neill

Mayor
